Perceptions and Impressions

When perception comes to our mind, could it actually be perceived as impressions as well?

Hmm, the definition of Perception is the act or faculty of apprehending by means of the senses or of the mind; cognition; understanding or so its been defined lexically. However Impression means the first and immediate effect of an experience or perception upon the mind; sensation in which both could have different meanings but could it be used for the same thing?

To me, both of those words could be used for the same apparent thing.

As an example, when people see you for the first time whether or not in any places such as around HELP University College, im pretty sure people will look at you with their first glance and start judging you in person. When that happens, there goes impression and perception comes in play. Your appearance, attire, personality, and style would eventually give birth to those impressions and perceptions.

Lets just say, when a girl steps in the college with branded handbags such as LV, Gucci and express with a flamboyant attitude, would eventually be branded as an arrogant girl or perhaps ''bitchy'' or a guy with short pants and slippers walk in the class late without his bag, sitting at one corner could be judged as being a person that procrastinate, lazy, or even irresponsible.

I would say, some perceptions and impressions could be partially true but not entirely as the saying goes don't judge a book by its cover. True but well, not all people would know a person's true nature unless they get to know him/her. However i do believe we live and perform for the first impression. What i mean is that we tend to wear decent clothes, putting up our best appearance in the public so that our first impression would be positively born and implanted on others. Perception is created when we think of what it is, like what my lecturer said, the perception could be related to the Halo Effect that we always have the thought of a lecturer who has good presentation skills, professionalism, formal-attire and other positive factors.

As we all are aware, people are judgmental, as an example, taking subjects that are non-mathematical based such as Human Communication, Tourism and subjects that are usually in the art fields, we would think of getting some lecturers that are friendly, approachable, and fun. In this case, we seek for these treats and for the most part, its quite true.

Till then, you be the judge. Happy Raya! :D

Cheers!
