A few days ago, I was on my way back to my hometown,Seremban. I was travelling by train and it was really packed. That is when I met an interesting character. He was a blind man.Once he entered into the train, he started shouting at everyone in the train. He said that people are so inconsiderate and they should have let him enter the train first. Then he went and stood in front of a seat where someone was sitting and demanded the person to get up, so that he can sit.
After that, he just started talking loudly about the ineffeciency of the train system in Malaysia. When the train was nearing a stop called Batang Benar, he asked loudly to the people sitting in the train whether if anyone could help him with something. No one answered at first and then a Malay lady who was sitting beside me answered him in Malay. The thing was,the man without appreciating her, asked her why she was speaking in Malay and not in English. He continued asking her whether if she was shy to speak in English. The lady became angry but then she controlled herself and asked him back in fluent English what was wrong in speaking in Malay. Then the man said “ Wow, your English is good!” and the lady said “ Well, I am a English lecturer in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia(UKM)”.
From this incident, I understood that there were differences between people with disabilities and that they all hadindividual characteristics because the disabled people that I had met so far were all very quite, polite and did not demand things. Nevertheless, it was definitely an interesting encounter for me.
